EVALUATION BRUV ;)

Media Evaluation

  1. How does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media projects?

Our media product uses and develops the characteristics of a typical horror/thriller film. This is largely connoted in the background music in it and through the tone of the film. We also added a sense of the 50’s film noir as it went with the theme and genre of the film that we wanted to create and it too, is from the 50’s.
We chose to do this as we watched a couple of movies from the same genre that were made in that time period and decided that it would be best if we played along to the stereotypical way of showing horror and unease, as shown in the clips that we watched.

  1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our media project represents young women to be weak and vulnerable. This is greatly portrayed in our film when the girl is seen running away from a male killer and is terrified that she could come to harm. This plays with the stereotype that men are the more dominant sex in society and are more powerful than women.
The scene where [Alex] runs across the bridge in fear of being caught by the monstrous man that is behind her. There are connotations of the girl being weak and vulnerable as she has to hide to get away from the thing that is going to follow her through the rest of the film.

  1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The kind of media institution that we would hope would develop our film would be Warner Bros, as they develop films that are from the fantasy, mystery genre, and since that was the kind of genre we wished our film to be, we would like to hope that they would have taken our project on.

  1. Who would be the audience for your media project?

The audience for our film would be any film lover, probably between the ages of 15 and 16, because the main characters in the film are teens from two different times and they show the massive differences between the two different times.
We chose to make our project attract the younger teenage generation because it was something that we could easily relate to and through own personal experience of the cinema, decided that its mainly the teenage type movies that bring in a larger audience.

  1. How did you attract/ address your audience?

Mainly by placing a teenager as the lead roll in the film. This created a sense that because the lead roll was played by a teenager, it would relate to them and attract them into seeing what teenage drama she is going through.

  1. What have you learnt from technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Mainly that using adobe premier is extremely difficult when the main part of your movie is a special effect. When we used it, we did come across some major problems, like whenever I logged on, I couldn’t access the media server or get the video’s to load to my blog and that didn’t help the production schedule at all.
That the camera’s that we were given were not as good as they should have been as they always picked up background noise, and the sound quality was made even worse by the sound of the actual camera working in the background. Also, in some of the shots that we did, the picture its self was fuzzy as the camera lens’ ad zoom aren’t that good either.

  1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full project?

Many things including;
How to use the technology correctly and to be patient with it,
Not to take time for granted as with our preliminary task, we filmed it all on the night before it was due in and failed to make it look as if a professional had created it.
Not to trust adobe premier with anything as the amount of times it crashed on us was ridiculous,
Not to trust anyone under the age of 16 with a camera as it will not turn out well and it will be shoddy,
And that being professional is the key to making a film work, our preliminary task we took as a joke and didn’t think that it would be important, however we were proved wrong of this in the final task, as if we had paid attention to the making of the work then it would have turned out better.

TIS BUT AN OLD LADY!!!

Watch out for the old lady in the clip!
:') we have all been laughing at this clip for the past couple of weeks and have finally decided to show you what we thought was funny!

watch the old lady come down the hill with the red scarf on. ITS CREEPY HOW CLOSE SHE GETS TO ALEX!!!!

tis but a final project I see...

after re-filming so many times now we have finnished our final piece.
here it is!!

if we had more time allocated to us then we could have gotten the continuity errors more straightened out. however, due to many disasters in the past few weeks because of premier time has kind of slipped away from us.

please leave your comments on what you think about it and try to be nice...

and.. ACTION..

We are definitely re-filming today :)
we have a list of shots to re film and hopefully the weather will be the same as the day that we first filmed.
we have to refilm shots;
1, ( the scene where we first see her running away form the killer)
4, ( the clip where we see her turn the corner after the bridge)
17, (the clip where we see her coming up the last flight of stairs and she is holding the rail, where as in the clip before hand she isn’t.)
19 &20 together, (the walking clips. she stops suddenly and the transition between clips into the spin isn’t smooth)
(the speech scenes) on a whole, all the speech scenes need to be refilmed as there is a poor sound quality in them and at times the acting is a bit meh.

HMMMM.....PREMIER FAIL MUCH?

AGAIN, adobe premier seems to have broken on me.
i am tryingt o get everything sorted as i am in the middle of trying to upload another rough version of the film to my blogger account. hopefully everything wil be sorted soon as we are refilming some important scenes on friday.

IM TURNING INTO A SWAN. BRB.

HAHA!! IT IS ZEE PLAN!!!

We are aware that our video needs a lot of work to get the standard up to scratch and we are aware that a lot of time and effort is needed. We will be re filming some of the shots to improve continuity, sound and the effect we want to create. Here is a plan of action....

1. We are going to use the audio from just one of the running shots in order to make it sound consistent so that any unnecessary jumping with sound can be avoided. For instance, the sound of the river changes throughout the video so we want to make this continuous and there is a man sitting on the bridge we were filming on with an instrument so we need to either cut all that sound out and layer over the scene with sounds of street noises and footprints or find a way of getting a continous piece of music that can be heard in the background of the clip.
2. We are going to make the beginning and ending of shots are more tightly edited; otherwise we will lose the tension of the chase. If it is short and snappy it will create more of an effect and will keep the audience on the edge of their seat.
3. We are going to get Edward to record some music for our video to add to the tension. He will probably be using his electric guitar to record the music so this will give us edgy music that sets the scene.
4. Our Titles/Credits are going to be put in when we re-film things as all the scenes we chose to put the titles in are the ones that need to be re-done.
5. We are going to smooth out some of the edits (either by cross-fading sound or by lifting the audio from one clip and adding it to another)
6. The shot of the feet where she is walking across the bridge is held too long so in our editing we have been cutting down some of the clips to make them shorter so that it keeps audiences interested and doesn't become boring.
7. The POV shot after this is held for too long so we are going to cut that down by a few seconds as well
8. The dialogue needs to be re-synched or re-shot; it's inaudible. We are going to focus on this when it comes to re-filming so we can make sure the dialogue can be heard and the audience are able to learn about the main characters story a little bit.
9. We may shoot the dialogue sequence as the continuity project, with shot/ counter shot, action match and a range of CU/ 2 shots. Also, the dialogue will make some reference to her being followed, setting up the mystery. This part really depends on time though as we have a limited window to get it finished.
10. There are occasions on the video where we break the 180 degree rule so we really need to be careful whilst editing to try and make this seem either unnoticable or re-film those parts so we don't break it.

ROUGH CUT!!! YEY!!!

Here is our clip (finally) :D
i finally managed to export without it crashing :) for once...i think adobe premier might actually hate me.. ahh well...

leave your comments below telling me what you think and please remember that this is a rough cut, i am still working on it, so be kind :)

also, we will be re-filming some of our film footage as the camera is either shaky, the sound is not that great, continuity is crap and some of the shots do not give the effect that we hoped they would give.

these will be done hopefully sometime this week as we are trying to do them asap.

IM OFF TO INDIA, BRB...

GINGERS DON'T GET QUIET TIME!

anyway...

our filming/editing process is almost done :D
we are currently in the process of introducing music to our opening sequence, and finishing off our editing.

the music;

we haves asked our friend Edward Fawcett to do the background music, and unfortunately we are going to have to add in some sound effects to our clips due to sound/ speech quality, and unwanted background noise, e.g. works in the market place and the rushing water from the river are present.

the music will be added on to our film on a separate audio feed as we are going to have to delete most of the audio from the town centre clips as some inconsiderate french person decided to play the bloody accordion ¬.¬...
this will be sorted some time before Friday, as that is when our deadline is, and hopefully this will help give the effect that we wanted to our audience.

Editing :D

the editing is almost done!!! yey !! :)
we do however need to find some more fades and wipes to go on to our film to  make it run smoother, as we have some sections that do need to run smoother for continuity issues.
we have added in some special effects to help with the story line, we added a lens flare in the shots when Marriella (Alex) is walking up the stairs and into the future. the colour in the film also changes form black and white to technicolour, again showing that time has passed and that things have changed.

there are some continuity issues that we are trying to fix, however this is our rough draft and if they are noticeable to the viewers, we will re-film and change them.
we have looked at the possibility of re-filming, but with deadlines and other subjects on our minds, there is unfortunately not a lot that we can do.

we have now almost finished our editing, and our rough edit should be up on our blogs sometime before Friday.

im off to get my arm stuck in blue john canyon. brb.

so, the question for the day is:

"if a turtle loses its shell, is it naked or homeless?"

you decide.

why does it always break on me?

well, storyboards and scripts where MEANT to be on here after I scanned them in and uploaded them, but I think that blogger has fallen out with me since i have had problems with it previously.

I will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible and they will be placed on here momentarily, however you will have to be patient as I don't know how long it will take me to find the solution to all my problems with blogger.

our weekend ¬.¬

Unfortunately, we had a bit of trouble at the weekend with some of our actors not turning up ¬.¬ so we only had an hour of daylight left by the time our new actors turned up form Darlington. we have taken some footage however, some of the quality of it is  not that good due to lighting issues. we are re-evaluating how we are going to deal with this problem and are shooting some more footage soon. we have new actors (Alex Toes - who plays Mariella, and Stevo - who plays the murderer) I am still playing Samantha.
